What is Distance Learning?
|
| Distance learning is an innovative development in education that use various medium of instruction, such as the Internet and computer-mediated technology, to facilitate learning without limitations of time or place. Bramson ORT College make it possible for students from anywhere and anytime to take classes without having to attend regular classroom sessions. Distance learning students use state-of-the-art technology to connect to students, faculty members and classmates. The great advantage of distance learning is that it gives students the flexibility to achieve an appropriate balance of work, family, community and educational commitments.

| Are the online courses offered at Bramson eligible for college credit?
|
| All online courses offered at Bramson ORT College are three-credit college courses. These courses satisfy the academic standards of college and regional requirements, and are approved by the state for online instruction.

| Will my course appear on my transcript as a correspondence course?
|
| No distinction is made on your official Bramson ORT College transcript between courses completed through Distance Learning and those completed in traditional classrooms. The credits that you receive are exactly the same as those awarded to on-campus students.

| How are classes conducted?
|
| Classes are conducted online, with your professor providing the course materials from textbooks, lectures, references, and online class activities and projects. Your instructor conducts lectures by providing lecture notes on the course site, and facilitates discussions on the bulletin board and chat message boards. A course calendar, syllabus, course requirements, reading assignments and other instructions are also all posted on the course web site. Your professor provides instructions and deadlines through the course website for all required course work and submission deadlines, and returns graded work to students based on established deadlines.

| How are assignments, class exercises, and projects given and graded?
|
Weekly course work includes chapter(s) and topic(s) readings, required submission of homework, class activities such as bulletin board discussions and online chats, and a term project. Class exercises are conducted and completed online; homework assignments and term projects are submitted to your professor using online submission tools. Deadlines for submission are posted by your instructor accordingly.
Homework assignments and projects are graded on a timely basis and returned to you by your professor through Bramson 's course management online tools, as well as by email.

| How are quizzes and exams given and graded?
|
| Quizzes and mid-semester exams are made available online and are completed for submission to the instructor on specified deadlines using the course management tools. These quizzes and exams are then graded and returned to you according to specified schedules. Final exams are conducted onsite at the Bramson ORT College Campus. Students who cannot come to the Bramson Campus can take the final exam at another assigned location with the same proctoring supervision and guidelines set forth by the college in facilitating final examinations.

| How is class participation handled and graded? |
| Your instructor requires a minimum level of online participation for particular class topics and discussions. These discussions generally take place on the bulletin board or online chat discussion boards. These represent your class participation and form part of your overall grade in the class.

| How do I communicate with instructors and students? |
| You and your professor communicate one-on-one using your personal email addresses. You can also communicate to the whole class using the Class Mailing List email address established for your course. Your instructor makes him/herself available to you during established office hours posted on the course site.

| What software do I need to access a DL course? |
All you need is Web browser that supports tables, frames, Java, and Javascript. We recommend Netscape Navigator/Communicator version 4.7 or higher, or Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher (Netscape is recommended).
